A DATA COMIC

Deforestation

November 2, 2019

This is a comparison of forest coverage and farming in the Amazon. Most of the farming is reportedly cattle. The gap between the red and green bars doesn't represent any data, but highlights how closely deforestation tracks with farming. To reproduce the data, follow the link below to Project MapBiomas and (assuming their site never changes for the rest of time) select the following:

  • Type → Coverage
  • Territories → AMAZONIA (Biome)
  • Classes → 1 Forest, 3 Farming
